Not an exaggeration to say when authoritarian thugs distort scientific research toward their own petty or prejudiced tastes, economies suffer, national security is compromised, people die. Exact proportion of each of those consequences varies from one authoritarian state to another, but all happen

Giving Tom Emmer credit for ANYTHING passing on the House floor this term just because his title is “Whip” is like giving your 6 year neighbor credit for the Bears last season just because he’s wearing a WILLIAMS jersey. www.washingtonpost.com/politics/202...
How did the GOP wrangle its slim House majority? Ask Rep. Tom Emmer.
The Republican whip describes how he worked to get the president's agenda through a closely divided House without burning bridges or losing his sense of humor.

This is obviously such cowardly loser behavior but I do wish that if anyone ever tried to make me do a work task I wasn't into, I could just leave for several months while continuing to collect a salary.
BREAKING: The House is going home again—this time to avoid a vote on Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s impeachment.

Objectively speaking the dumbest man in the entire nation is an incredibly wealthy, highly highly educated person and he’s literally president
I like how much of the “low information” working or middle class voter discussion implicitly goes hard at the idea that they’re poorer and more susceptible to bad, dumb (mis)info, and I’m not saying people aren’t, but have u seen how rich highly educated people vote?

the sum total of Sam Alito’s jurisprudence on voting adds up to “You have the right to vote for a Republican and if you aren’t likely to vote for a Republican, then Republicans are allowed to disenfranchise you.”

What are the best, most informative *magazine articles* (or magazine-length newspaper articles) that you ever read about the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan?

Listing a few of my favorites to get it going:

You can tell this is true because when Michelle Obama made healthy eating and exercise her issue as First Lady, this same movement failed to coalesce around her and in fact she met a ton of resistance from the same people who made RFK Jr possible
Maha is just another astroturfed front in the American Reactionary Movement. This movement is responsible for every public health crisis: climate, automobile deaths, gun violence, homelessness, poverty. Its the Don't Tell Me What To Do movement. They are few but they're mobilized for war.
The few things that maha "gets right" are such banal and commonplace ideas that no one disagrees upon and are not worth mentioning.

Ah yes, Eat better and exercise, an idea that doctors are famously hostile toward

Always a good time to remind ourselves that the US Confederacy was, even judged in historical context, evil -- a pathetic, morally repellant movement led by some the smarmiest narcissists ever known. It had no redeeming features & should forever be regarded with disgust & contempt.
Trump officials strip military language criticizing Confederate memorial
A new sign at Arlington National Cemetery omits wording that said the 32-foot bronze statue “mythologized” the Confederacy and gave “sanitized” depictions of slavery.
