I just wanted to come back and say I hope this didn’t come across as combative!! I just really like digging into the legality and specifics of things. 🫡 Thank u for also citing your own sources. I agree the rules be silly, especially for hosting a fur con.

Like the tiniest thing can have an impact on the legality of something?? Wild. I’m down a rabbit hole right now about “innkeeper laws” and how it does and doesn’t relate to housing and it is SO interesting.

Do I think that they have to make these rules is stupid?? Yeah. It should be common sense not to have alcohol around underage people that aren’t under your supervision. Are they completely allowed to? Also yeah. A really ridiculous unfortunate part of the tango they have to play.

Yep. As stated, notice how “Sex, race, color, religion, ancestry, national origin, disability, medical condition, genetic information, marital status, sexual orientation, citizenship, primary language, or immigration status” does not include guardianship status of minors.

Well it depends, if it’s classed as a long-stay or extended stay hotel then yes it falls under the FHA, however a standard hotel or motel does not. As far as my experiences they’ve always been at standard hotels, I’ve never done an extended stay hotel like a HomeSuites.

Yyyyyes but that’s not what this is. Hotels fall under private property and may have certain “house rules” that guests are expected to follow. States may differ based on their individual Innkeeper’s Acts, which in CA’s case is Civil Codes 1859-67, as far as I know.

It’s not against parents having alcohol, it’s adults with minors present who are NOT their parents/guardians, which is a clause I’ve seen before. Mine was Marriot Atlanta I believe? Could have been in SLC as well.
