Stargazing vet from the Dark Satanic North. Once hit the stumps from the boundary aged 11, all down hill since then. Was in practice, now harping on about #OneHealth, transboundary infectious disease and whatnot 🇬🇧🇦🇺🇪🇺

A century earlier, on 18th Jan 1881 the 'Visiter' ran ashore off Robin Hood's Bay, North Yorkshire. No local boat could be launched due to the violence of the storm, so the Whitby lifeboat was brought OVERLAND 6 miles to the bay itself. Through 7ft snowdrifts 200 men cleared the way by hand.
Every year on 19 December, the famous Christmas lights at Mousehole in Cornwall are dimmed between 8 and 9pm, leaving just the Cross and Angels shining down across the village and out to sea.

The Captain has turned on the signs
So stow away bags of all kinds
Then make sure your tray is folded away
And the seat-back no longer reclines

As head of PR at Weyland-Yutani, I’m afraid to say that this statement needs to be repeated.

Guys. Where are the posts reminding us not to speak ill of the dead? I'm not seeing them for some reason.

Absolutely this. Academic freedom cannot be a cover for discredited/pseudoscientific claims of racial superiority. Science is not a tool to be used to insinuate an answer while giving the speaker somewhere to retreat to when challenged.
I do not think "black people are inferior" or, say, "Jews are inferior" are suitable subjects for academic enquiry. We've done that before and it hasn't gone well. What would be the red line for you? If he had a swastika on his forehead?

Even here on Bluesky, a lie (or worse a half-truth) can make it around the world before Sam Vimes has got his boots on.

Finally! Now my AI agent can walk my dog, and connect with my children, and comfort my wife as she cries herself to sleep at night.

Mind blown (Escherich/E. Coli). Love these little treasure troves from history.
The headlines are still covering the cyclosporiasis outbreak from lettuce, but let's talk about a different summer, long ago.

The headlines in Bavaria would have called it "summer diarrhea" & it was killing babies.

Enter our hero, Professor Theodor Escherich of the Julius Hospital, Würzburg.

Lots of interesting points in this thread and the replies.

It's a genuinely remarkable change that you can have a Catholic prime minister, a Jewish foreign secretary, a gay defence secretary & a British-Asian home secretary, and those are among the least controversial facts about those appointments
Wes Streeting is the first UK Secretary of State for Defence who is openly gay.

Gay people have been able to serve openly in the UK Armed Forces since 2000.

Like PM Andy Burnham's Catholicism, something that would have been controversial is largely now a matter of biographical colour.

I don’t mind it, but there’s no doubt it looks like a matte painting of an alien cityscape in an episode of Star Trek The Next Generation.
It looks shite. Sorry. It looks like the first level from a FPS that’s set in an indeterminate time in the future but they don’t want to do anything too outlandish.

I think the tech bros are only too happy to see the pushback against SM being funnelled into this wholly ineffective intervention. Instead of tackling the root cause of the problem - attention stealing, algo driven polarisation and uncontrolled misinformation/anti rationalism

If we have to ban under-16s from social media so they don't have to see all the awful shit over-16s are doing, I'm thinking maybe under-16s aren't the problem.

Even Monaco has potholes now.
FIA says they are investigating track break up in the final sector. We might not get a restart if there isn't a quick fix, since the event clock has around 80 minutes left. #F1 #MonacoGP
