I'm not surprised but I'm truly disgusted that this narrative of "dangerous fighting age men posing a threat to women and children" is genuinely doing the rounds on the media with almost no push back at all.

This is 1930s level stuff.

This chart should be a national story.

UK diesel is back around 191.5p a litre and petrol around 169.5p. So a 55-litre fill is roughly £105 for diesel and £93 for petrol.

In April, prices like this led the news for days. Now they barely seem to register at all in Britain today too.

£3 - the annual Labour affiliation fee per affiliated union member.

£36,000,000 - how much each of two billionaires donated to Reform UK.

One billionaire donated the equivalent of 12 million union members’ annual affiliation fees. The two are not the same.

It’s befuddling how a madman in America is causing a cost of living crisis in the UK with impunity. I can’t believe how much fuel has increased Ina week! This is all falling into the hands of the evil fascists and extremes who will only make it worse if they get into power! This is by design…

UK economy grew faster than expected in July
The economy expanded by 0.4%, official figures show, whereas economists had predicted no growth.

I have been a little lax in covering the environmental impacts as well as the human and maritime impacts of #TheHormuzCrisis, so will focus there this morning.

There have also been significant moves in the Bab al'Mandeb strait, which requires more attention.

The balaclava blackshirted thugs are a result of a decade of politicians, tabloids and the broadcast media telling racists they have "legitimate concerns."

The normalisation of actual fascism rhetoric and action has led to this and is a far greater "legitimate concern" than any migrant on a boat.

Govt, politicians, rightwing media… you decided that Brexit meant you needed to exclusively appeal to a stereotypical “red wall”/“left behind” voter who you insisted was anti-immigration because it suited you to pin their disaffection onto immigrants rather than onto you…

I am still watching the Middle East very closely.

But there is another developing story I think needs bringing into the same picture: El Niño.

Not because it tells us what the weather will be. Because it changes the assumptions we normally use to plan around it.

This stopped me in my tracks.

An independent study by @qmul.bsky.social has found that after ULEZ was introduced, children’s lungs grew faster in Central London and have now caught up with children outside of the capital. Incredible.
Air pollution stunts children’s lung growth. New Queen Mary research found that improvements in air quality after the introduction of London’s ULEZ are associated with accelerated lung growth in children.

New data shows our homicide rate is lower than every US state, while murder rates are at record lows.

The evidence is clear: our approach to tackling crime and its causes works. It’s driving down violence right across the capital.

Our world is being destroyed and no one is caring…!
I feel everyone has forgotten about this...

But there is still approximately 800,000 barrels-worth of oil leaking into the Gulf of Oman...

It is hard to see on the image - but those swirls in the water are crude oil...
