One of the reasons I opted out of grad school for lit was because of my terrible memory. I can’t recall specific passages or from which book they come. LLMs would have been a huge help to find again what I knew I read. Never in a million years would I trust it to find new references for me.
This is one of the objections I have when people talk about how useful LLMs can be for literature searches or for any kind of search, really. Even beyond the biases that inevitably (and, in some cases, intentionally) show up, part of a good literature search is seeing information *in context.*
Part of research is wandering in the literature and making unexpected connections, finding the questions you didn’t know to ask. I don’t see a good way to do that while relying mainly on LLMs to do literature searches.

What is being ridiculed here as “Woke 1” is a discursive environment wherein racism/misogyny/transphobia were largely considered beyond the pale.
The right, out of fear and rage, fought back to reclaim space for that mode of speech.
