There is nothing in §§1441-1455 that compels the state authorities to cede prosecution of the case to the USAO. Maybe some localities do it as a matter of "protocol," but nothing that I can see forces the state to do so.

I’m looking at the federal officer removal statute. I don’t see anything about the US attorney taking over.
