I tend to agree. Way back in the pandemic I saw fraying of the social contract & just put it down to the stress of the times. But it’s persisted. It’s like weird moral showmanship

students absolutely need to spend time reading difficult texts (assuming anybody taught them to read in K-12, and not just three-cueing). writing, absolutely, is thinking. i believe in all of that as much as i also believe technological tools can let us do new cool stuff on top of that foundation.
