What autistic children need is not one specific "autistic" doll. Far better to provide neutral-looking dolls that can act as a blank canvas. I reckon most of my (10+) Sindies were autistic like me (though I didn't know I was until 30 years later). They just weren't marketed that way.

As a child I was really keen on toys that were realistic. Like, dolls that didn't have a fixed smile and had normal stuff that wasn't all pink. Pedigree understood that and their Sindy dolls were amazing. Mattel is only just beginning to catch up now.

If you think of it in any other context, like take off the "neuro" part, maybe, it gets easier. Neurodiverse refers to a diverse group of people; neurodivergent refers to a person or people whose traits diverge from expected/usual/normative ways of thinking or being
