On this day in 1942, Lucy Maud Montgomery died.
Born in 1874 in New London, PEI, she wrote 20 novels, and over 1,000 short stories and poems. Her most famous book is Anne of Green Gables, which has sold over 50 million copies and been translated into 36 languages.
