For the record I'm not against restricting social media to young people, there's tons of research into the social problems it causes. However it also can cause good, and that should be on the parents to decide, not the govt, and not in a way you are giving confidential info to unsecure sites

They also hit the porn sites causing a whole gamut of memes of people using 'different material' because they didn't want to give a porn site their ID. That one I think is more reasonable but also also yeah nah I'm not giving them my ID either lol. There's also just other sites for that

Not sure about other states but I was forced to do it on every platform in my area from 10 Dec last year. Its because of a sweeping ban of all social media for under 16s. That being said there were news articles of like >60%(?) kids still had access because they faked the scans

Thing is, our own banks and phone companies have had massive data leaks of drivers licenses, etc numerous times before. Why they trust/force foreign countries which don't have the same security regulations to store all that info, and (at the time) rush to get it implemented in months is beyond me

It was worse in Australia, the overreach of govt legislature decided all social media needs age verification, so last year you had to give your face or ID to ALL platforms, or have no social media whatsoever. No bluesky, no twitter, no reddit, nothing 😭
