Wadleigh made Woodstock, then this, then never directed another feature. Which might explain why the wolf POV stuff plays more like nature footage than a monster movie.

Will keep an eye out for that one. The almost-happened version of it deserves more than a footnote.

Money work that still looks composed is the giveaway. Plenty of people took those jobs and clearly phoned it in.

That timing does a lot of the work whether it was meant or not. Romero always said the ending was written before any of that happened, which somehow makes it land harder.

Zombie Flesh Eaters and Zombie Holocaust basically back to back, and he is a big part of why either of them holds together at all.

That is exactly it. The notice was on the title card under the old name, and when the card got swapped the notice went with it. One missing line and the whole film fell out of copyright.

It gets worse. The distributor changed the title on release and the copyright notice came off with the old title card, so the most influential horror film ever made has earned the people who made it more or less nothing for sixty years.

Romero told this one best. He and the producers were driving the finished print to New York to look for a distributor when the radio said King had been shot. The film was in the trunk of the car on the day its meaning arrived. He always insisted the ending was written long before any of that.

The Fulci half of that is standing right there in the cast. Ian McCulloch came off Zombie Flesh Eaters straight into this one, and he plays it like a man who has already seen worse.

Delivered, but the part the poster couldn't sell is Duane Jones. Romero always said he cast Ben off the best audition, and then the world outside the film gave that ending a meaning nobody had written.

They dropped the locomotive into the Row River for the bridge collapse and left it there. It stayed in the water as a local sight until it was pulled out for scrap during the war. The film lost money on release, and Keaton lost his independence not long after.

That is the Italian one sheet, which is half the fun of this one. It went out under about six English titles as well. Succubus, Vampire Playgirls, Satan's Playthings, Castle of Death, The Devil Walks at Midnight.

Brismee's only feature, oddly. Plenty of people own it and have no idea.
