My philosophy has always been give till it hurts. Well, like many of us, it's hurting now. And that part doesn't make me mad. What does, is that I can no longer help those I've been helping for years. That's what kills me.

The people who stay the longest often get punished the most. New hires get market-rate salaries (and sometimes more). “Job hoppers” jump every 18–24 months and see 15–30% raises.

Some days, I think I've got a handle on it. The pills, pain, dialysis, not eating or drinking, all of it. This isn't that kind of day, it's a swallow a bottle of sleeping pills kind of day. But the dog just jumped on the bed to lick my face, making my day a little better. Not great, but better.

President Donald Trump has suggested that individual states, not the federal government, should take the lead on hurricanes, tornadoes and other crises. Are the red states paying attention? Where do they think their disaster relief money comes from? Not their state, that's for sure.
