Why does nothing work anymore

One aspect of enshittification we don’t talk about is the way ads have wormed their way into totally unrelated things, like when you order food and they “unlock” a special off the for something else.

I just bought a sandwich I do not need a discount on the New York Times.

The way you click on an Instagram reels link and it will show you literally anything other than what the sender intended.....

This week I tried to cancel a dentist appointment and it sent me to an AI Voice Agent. I said I wanted to cancel and it keep asking me if I wanted to reschedule and I'm like no cancel and its like ok reschedule......

Has anyone else noticed that automatic paper towel dispensers everywhere seem to have been re-set to dispense much shorter towels? Shorter than most hands are?

Google Maps doesn't think the street outside my apartment exists, so it gives me insane run-around directions to get home when, instead, I could just drive down this street.

Don't they track android phones? Can't they see people driving down this street?

Ok so Youtube Movies & TV and YoutubeTV are two different subscriptions? What?

I used to be able to say 'ok Google call Mom' to my android auto connected Samsung phone while I was driving and it would call my Mom. But inexplicably the last couples weeks, it registers the request but then just errors and says it can't do that.

My car has a recall. I go to the dealership website, where you can make other kinds of appointments, but it say you have to call them for the recall. I am a Millennial, I don't make phone calls, but fine. I call. And I am greeted with a lengthy pre-recorded message then put on hold. 1/3

A venue recently gave me directions to their location saying: 'Google Maps tells you to take a left on a street that is one way in the other direction, so take the next left instead'

Why is it impossible to get things like this fixed on Google Maps??

If you are going to put me on hold forever, just play the music so I can put it on speaker and do other things while I wait. When you interrupt every minute to say this, you hold my attention hostage so I can't even concentrate on something else 🫠
Nothing says that my call is very important to you like putting me on hold and having your AI agent tell me "your call is very important to us" once every two minutes for over 20 minutes.

WTAF are we doing
I tried to donate a car to Habitat for Humanity but they've outsourced their donation program to a 3rd-party, that sells to an auction house that then sells to used car dealers.
Habitat gets little or nothing which defeats the entire purpose of donating to them.

Enshittification of everything.

Recently Google changed all their icons and now I can't find anything. Trying to open an app, I don't know what I'm looking for anymore. GChat in particular wtf

Also, a bunch of other apps decided to change their icons at the same time and this feels like a covert cognitive test I'm failing
my first thought was they probably did the gradients to match gemini, and yep 😒

The Epic Tale of Creating This Bluesky Account
First I made a new gmail account, then I made this account and linked it to gmail. Since the gmail name had 'shit' in it and was only linked to a social media account, google banned it. Sure, ok fine I guess. I contested it and they returned it but....
