Advanced reading copy provided by Net Galley If Destruction Be Our Lot is an ongoing comic series written by Mark Elija Rosenberg (recently known for creating the Year Million TV series) and Matthew Rosenberg, who has a number of comic-writing credits, including What’s the Furthest Place from Here? I’ve been lucky enough to review an advanced reading copy of the first TPB that I received from Image Comics via NetGalley, which collects issues 1–4 in one volume.

Just want to preface this post by saying most of my books are in read condition 😂 Especially this one, which I’ve read at least ten times! Part 2 of my Beautiful Books series is Assassin’s Apprentice by the wonderful Robin Hobb. Again, I’m not going into the content here, but rather the aesthetics. This is the stunning illustrated edition by Del Rey, and the illustrations are truly incredible, really capturing the heart of the scenes.

As I’ve reached middle age, I’ve discovered the wonderful world of LitRPGs and what I like to call absurdist sci-fi. So, what exactly is a LitRPG? It’s essentially a book where the protagonist finds themselves in a video-game or D&D-like world, complete with levels, stats, skills and quests. The genre has been around for longer than you might think, with elements dating back to Andre Norton’s Quag Keep, published in 1978.
