Sometimes things don't work out. The book doesn't get finished, let alone published. But it is worth it anyway. Why?

When a hobby, creative pursuit, etc. becomes monetised, it can significantly change our relationship with it. Not to say we shouldn't, just that we should do it with our eyes open to how it might change how we feel about it.

I generally prefer failure stories to success stories.

There’s something particularly lonely about being told your stuckness must be a mindset problem. If the problem is entirely inside you, it’s easy to assume the solution must be too. It’s a good marketing setup, but that logic can have concerning implications.

Stuckness doesn't happen in a vacuum. Inner resistance usually has an external context. That said, a vacuum is probably quite hard to get out of.

Why do you bother doing what you do?

Some of us carry an old unmet ambition for so long that it becomes background noise.

By intervening early with generative AI before we have taken the opportunity to grapple with a block, we deprive ourselves of that bittersweet joy of finding something that comes to life THROUGH US.

What are we willing to tolerate? What are we helping to amplify? How are we equipping and rewarding the cries of wolf?

Not every journal session needs to be a deep dive into self-examination.

Some days become that for me, but only because most days aren't.

The idea of a secret runs through the history of self-help. There is always some missing piece, some hidden principle that, once understood and applied, will change everything.

Choosing one can feel like losing the others. So we might stay stuck between every possibility.

There are times when we get stuck on a choice because our options feel off. Rather than searching for more, different, and better options, it might be worth first asking why.
