Huge thanks to everyone at the @FTMag for sending me to Santa Marta to cover the first international conference on shifting away from fossil fuels. The event showed the vast and messy complexity of the task - and the rising determination to achieve it as.ft.com/r/79eab047-c...

200 Milliarden Euro Schaden durch Steuerbetrug? Egal. 60 Milliarden umweltschädliche Subventionen? Was soll's. 30 Milliarden Euro Strafzahlung wegen verfehlter Klimaziele? Wir haben's ja. Aber die Bürgergeldbezieher – die sind unser Bankrott.

Widerlich.

There are a hundred more important things to say, and I tried to say some of them in my essay for "Thinking About...", but: invading a country for oil is also just atavistic at this point. Even if it worked, which it won’t, it still wouldn’t work.
Wall Street’s biggest banks made more money financing green projects than they did from working with fossil fuel companies for a fourth straight year, even as they faced ongoing pressure to pull back from the business

Trump just said what it is all about.
The sooner the world sheds its addiction to fossil fuels, the better. The alternatives are available, plentiful and cheaper.

If the US were to honor the climate targets laid out in the Paris climate agreement, this attack would not have happened…
The overlap between places we want to dominate and places that have oil is striking
