This is a system of recursive exploitation. VAs become complicit in gambling addiction exploitation, and then are incentivized into maintaining exploitative parasocial relationships w/ fans in order to make ends meet b/c they aren't even being paid fair wages for their contributions to the casino.
A big part of why Hoyo roles are coveted is not because of the pay. But the opportunity to roll the red carpet out at conventions and make money from gacha fans. Because the job doesn’t pay. The fans do.
