i like the car far more than the limb based status system fallout for example uses. being able to take it apart adds so much, you can apply must stranger and more permanent conditions when a player isnt expected to need that part forever, and the physicality of taking it apart is just fun

pacific drive gets close to this, but its not quiiite explorey enough since that mostly happens in scripted story missions. i love how much of a pile of parts the car is, so that so many things can happen to it and they feel very real. im spoiled by it for status effects in other games now

also i love how luffy represents so many different kinds of disability with the backlash. he can be hungry and sick and tired, but also young and old. and all of these need to be protected and cared for for the solidarity to turn into the punching he does

and it really would have killed him a dozen times, if his crew werent jumping in to keep him safe and let him rest. earlier gears backlash got toned down to make them more useable, but i love the treatment of fourth and fifth's backlash. its so hard to keep luffy alive but its worth it for a friend

second and third *are* weird, but theyre easier to accept. fourth hardens his skin with haki, inflates his bones to form pistons, and uses his muscles to pull his limbs into themselves with a horrible creaking sound. you really get why hes told fighting like this should be killing him. its great

saw a couple speed racers entered so im throwing redline (2009) into the ring. an hour and forty minutes of absolutely gorgeous hand drawn action racing and dozens of original songs. director's first project, ambitious as anything, unfortunately didnt recoup its budget. it was worth the expense tho
