Stop calling it January 6th. It's the Trump Insurrection. Likes/reposts don't mean I endorse everything that person ever said.

There will be a lot of equivocating about all the times search warrants have been executed on members of Congress for corruption investigations and the like, and it can't be stressed enough in how many ways HSI raiding Ilhan Omar is extremely not like that.

This is just a relentlessly horrific story.

It’s hard to adequately contextualize the moral desolation of this unfolding in the midst of a midterms against a ruling party helmed by inveterate rapists and rape apologists.

I have been saying for decades that wholesale campaign finance reform is ESSENTIAL, usually to glazed eyes in return. Our current situation owes a lot to our current campaign finance laws and workarounds.

This needs to be getting a lot more attention.
Fascists are getting elected everywhere in the world. Social media is the lone common denominator.
Samoa’s Prime Minister Laʻauli Leuatea Schmidt has apologized for a video from 2007 in which he said “Heil Hitler” and made a Nazi gesture during what he described as a family gathering.

Any analysis of immigration policy under Trump that doesn't address that fact that it's blatantly racist, is trying to deceive you.
These side by side images tell the story: Trump welcomes only white South Africans while ICE descends on Haitians who have fled violence & established lives here legally. By abruptly ending TPS for Haitians & initiating mass deportations, our government is gleefully enacting racial apartheid in US.

We are a broken nation. Hundreds of thousands of Haitians were living and working legally, paying taxes, and contributing. Haiti remains wholly unsafe.

But Trump hates Haitians, and the White House wanted videos of Black people in chains, so they stripped them of status and turned on the cameras.

USPS’s job is to deliver the mail even if some mailed ballots genuinely are fake, illegal, fraudulent, or otherwise invalid. It’s on election administrators to catch and reject those, and they do. USPS has no role in it and the very idea mucks up the systems we actually have for election integrity.
I understand the confidence about how this will all end, but I'm still livid at the Postmaster General for having the gall to say the USPS has the right to decide who gets to vote, when the USPS's actual job is to DELIVER THE GODDAMN MAIL, including every ballot, whether Donald Trump likes it or not
I unpacked Supreme Court mail-in ballot ruling @outfrontcnn.bsky.social ⤵️

- The Executive Order is still blocked under a totally separate court order.

- States should win quick victories now that USPS has "final rule" (SCOTUS simply held it's premature before that final rule issues).

When your government says it’s planning to open multiple prisons that will house up to 3,000 children, it’s time to demand a new government. There is no context in which this is legitimate or acceptable.
The Trump regime is looking for immigrant detention camps big enough to hold up to 3,000 children. At an industry roundtable discussion, officials wouldn't say exactly where or when they need them, only that they’re expecting a “surge.” New from me in @prospect.org.

Trump, Hegseth, etc. don't actually care about members of the military at all. They only think of them as pawns and props. I'm glad this fact is finally breaking through and getting more and more coverage.
🚨EXCLUSIVE: Military families and service members are now describing horrific conditions across MULTIPLE ships: human waste flooding bathrooms, virtually no food, water or soap, months without port calls, exhausted crews, and no end in sight.

This crisis is far bigger than just the Lincoln.

I think there’s a tendency to frame this as a “Trump’s silly obsessions” sideshow story, but it’s a pretty grotesque corruption story. The administration squandered millions on a no-bid contract to an inexperienced company that botched the job, then indicted innocent people to cover their error.
NEWS --> Dems are launching an investigation into Trump's corrupt prosecutions for "vandalism" of Reflecting Pool. They're demanding access to WH-DOJ communications and more.

A self-respecting Congress would impeach him over this immediately.

Doing an end-run around the Senate's Constitutional "advise and consent" authority to illegally take money from taxpayers, and give it to himself and criminals he likes.

Alone, one of the most impeachable offenses in US history.

IMHO a lot of this is now a soft version of what has happened with Russia and Putin. The problem with "touch the stove" is that basic recognition of the sheer scale of Trump's screwups means a shattering of the assumptions needed to keep business as usual going. There's nowhere left to hide if
The US govt, markets, and a lot of media told you there's peace with Iran and shipping is flowing.

What's actually happened is the war entered a new phase: the fight for Hormuz.

Trump lost his war so badly the US aim now is just to get back to the pre-war status quo.

I explain in @ms.now, ICYMI:
The U.S.-Iran war just entered a new phase. Here's what's at stake.
Now the conflict is over whether Iran controls the Strait of Hormuz and can charge fees, or if the U.S. can restore the pre-war status quo.

the basic reality is that this court has already destroyed the united states as a functional republic and none of the reforms necessary to rebuild it will survive the court as it currently exists

any democrat not committed to expanding the court is not serious about fixing this country
Second (and last) #SCOTUS ruling is the big one, Louisiana v. Callais.

For a 6-3 majority (Rs v. Ds), Justice Alito purports to narrow the ability of states to draw majority-minority districts as a remedy for race-based vote dilution, but, per Kagan's dissent, comes pretty close to gutting the VRA:

This is correct. There is no future of democratic self government in the US with an unreformed Supreme Court. The Court is riddled with corruption and abuses of power and rooting out that corruption is a sine qua non of civic democracy in the United States.
Again - the Roberts #SCOTUS is the Hormuz problem for Democrats or anyone concerned about democracy in U.S.

It doesn’t matter what agenda Dems have, they’d be negligent if they don’t plan to act on an all out push to reform, rebalance (expand) to rein in the MAGA Court when they get back in power.
BREAKING: Supreme Court rules 6-3 that Louisiana's map is an unconstitutional gerrymander. Majority by Alito rules that Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act, "properly construed," can provide a compelling reason for race-based redistricting, but that did not happen here.
