At the Crystal Palace in Sydenham, Victorians could wander among statues of Minerva, Mars and other ancient gods under a roof of iron and glass. The palace burned in 1936, leaving these photographs all that's left of this vanished treasure. #FolkloreThursday #museum

In 1890, a paper in Tombstone claimed two ranchers shot a winged, alligator-like monster. But no follow-up photograph was ever produced, leaving the story in a cliffhanger.

Later retellings turned the so-called "Tombstone Phoenix" into a pterodactyl. #FolkloreThursday

Orion is not a true group of stars in space! They sit at very different distances but line up when viewed from Earth to make the hunter’s belt and body.

Who knows what pattern this constellation makes in other galaxies!
