So past this initial realization, I think I will continue using mammoth for my chat based usage, and I have to think about whether topping up API credits manually (and continue relying on cheaper, open weights models under the hood) is a better solution than Claude/Codex that I currently use.

This is entirely fair from Mammoth of course, they need a sustainable business model and this is just me growing used to heavily subsidized usage from the big labs and the insane value a 20€ Claude subscription can get you right now.

For example "implement the search backend for this button" using GLM-5.2 under the hood cost me 0.35$, (which is suuch good value when you think about it), but yeah, only 5-ish such requests and I'm out of credits for the month.

Something I realized just after subscribing is the chat usage (from the webapp), renewed every few hours, is billed separately than the API usage (from e.g. their own opencode fork). The 10€ formula "only" gives you 2$ worth of API tokens, which is quite limited when going full agentic mode.

I'm not (yet?) - haven't had too many needs for it so far, but if you find cool use cases do let me know! Or even useful extensions - for now I just have a REST API and highlightr extensions enabled (but I'm also trying to keep only some essentials)

@jensroemer.com Thx! I wanted to move away from Notion because it's not end-to-end encrypted.. It took me some time to migrate but I would definitely recommend Obsidian, I love that it's just non-proprietary markdown I have control over, and easy to integrate in any AI-based workflows

It can be a great way to locally "host" bookmarks (I pinned mine in the browser toolbar), todo lists, a cheatsheet... Anything you want to quickly check without switching context back to Obsidian.

All in all something like setting up Node, Typescript, Electron, Vite, React, TanStackRouter, Vitest, Playwright, Tailwind, ESLint, SQLite which would have taken me about a week 6 years ago was a done deal in a day

What also got massively improved since last time I touched node.js circa 2020, is typescript being supported as a first-class citizen pretty much everywhere.
I also haven't had the need for some packages that confused me so much back in the days (not being a web dev) like Babel and Webpack.

yikes, i heard about the infamous german train delays. At least that makes me realize we don't have it so bad in France despite the strikes and critics 😂
