I had no interest in seeing the movie about Antony Bourdain’s life until I discovered it was shot in the gayest of places in the US - Provincetown on Cape Cod.

I’m using Duck Duck Go, I click on a news item and just the page asking if I want to subscribe has 10 trackers on it that Duck Duck Go has blocked.

When most of us can see the billionaires are drunk on power, impacting politics and pushing propaganda at a rate of knots, I wonder what will be the thing that makes a change. History can only tell us so much. I suspect those in power gate keep the knowledge of how they are overthrown.

The BBC adverts really aren’t what they used to be. They’re barely trying. I remember the original “What has the BBC ever done for me?” acknowledged the original Monty Python ‘Romans’ sketch. But this has no connection to it, it’s charmless.

When we despair at the state of the world and worry that we can’t possibly change it, Nobel Prize winner Giorgio Parisi explains that starlings don’t think about the whole flock, they just react to the bird in front and to one side. Talking to your neighbours is a more radical act than you realise.

Watching HIGNFY and I proper perked up when there was a whole segment on motorway services. I felt certain they would mention Aust that has one of the best views when the sun is setting. Alas no.

Listening to ‘This Cultural Life’ and John Wilson surprised at how moved Juliet Binoche is when she recalls important moments in her life or when she explains what it is to act. I think listening to her talk about what connects us to a performance is one of the most profound explanations I’ve heard.

Just heard the ‘Rest is Entertainment’ ep where they talk about Dolly Parton. It was interesting to hear Richard say she wasn’t an angel and then didn’t qualify it with some sort of scandal. It sounded strange, like a clunky edit point. Also, I’m starting to wonder if she was actually an angel.

If you want top notch AI you need excellent data. Privacy is a human right. It is written in the 1948 Universal Declaration of Human Rights. So if you want the best AI ever you will have to sacrifice a human right for it. If you want AI to spot cancers it will need all the NHS data. Is it worth it?

I suspect Farage has some quite nasty “friends”. He’s incited racial hatred and got a few stern words from the PM. You’d think he’d get a visit from the police for that at least, but instead he got an apology from the BBC for misquoting him.

Trying to figure out what makes an Edinburgh show stick with you and make you remember it beyond the duration of being here. So far, I’ve decided it has to be more than a one person show, that format has been done so much it’s difficult to not fall into cliches now.

I’m sad that Dolly Parton has died but I’m so grateful she has left an amazing legacy. The amount of love she gave out to the world through books and charitable donations. My Covid vaccine in the UK was partly down to Dolly and friends (in the UK) with kids receive books from her each month.

I am sad to hear that unvaccinated people have died. Why? Because I think the anti vax rhetoric has been allowed to spiral, not just in the US but also in the UK. I don’t think anti vaxxers are idiots, because we know propaganda is dangerous, that’s why we had laws against it.

Took a little trip out of Edinburgh to go to the beach. The sea air has exhausted us. We could sleep now, but have a show to see.

Had a brilliant immersive experience at the Edinburgh Fringe today. It only lasted 15-20 mins and yet my partner and I have been talking about on and off all day since it happened this afternoon. That’s what I love about the Fringe, when something moves you or captures your imagination. It’s magical

When I was a kid photocopies weren’t great. So when I was given an IQ test, there was a question with three white sheep and one black asking: Which is the odd one out? However one of the white sheep appeared to have a leg missing. So what should I choose? Racism of ableism? I struggle to answer.

Binface wasn’t just funny, he served a purpose. He showed us how ridiculous Farage is and how important democracy is. Personable MPs are important, they help us engage with what’s going on and can shine a light on stuff others hope we don’t notice, but will impact our lives.

Got friends coming to stay with a very curious 2 year old so I’m just fitting child locks on drawers and cabinets. I’ve been swearing and sweating a fair amount, but it’s worth it to protect him.
