#WeeknightWriters I got a little ahead of myself, but since I'm about to celebrate finishing my first draft, I commissioned my chosen artist to do my book cover. And they sent me some rough layout options to choose from. The one I picked I'm so excited for!!! It has all the symbolism I hoped for

I have just 2 chapters left on my first draft! I'm so excited! The hardest part has always just been getting the ideas down on paper first. Well, it's been a year and a half and almost 100k words later but I'm feeling very proud of how far I've come.

My laptop has been in the repair shop for 4 weeks. Unfortunately my repair tech finally gave up, it's dead. I've been working off the loner he gave me. So tonight meant buying a new one. Hurts the wallet but good to be writing on my own device again!

Free will 100% Thorne is very dominant and has imprinted on Arlo. Arlo, having just freed himself from a very long term toxic relationship wants to find his footing as an individual. And...the choices Thorne makes are very dangerous and questionable.

The biggest theme My book covers is agency and the importance of having the freedom to choose. Arlo knows its precious, but it isn't until he's challenged that he stops to think about how his own actions may effect this in others.

Snipped from the WIP debut novel Moonfallen that reads: My eyebrows furrowed slightly. Was he referring to my ability to calm down Thorne during a rampage? "I've only ever done that to calm down Thorne when he's hurting himself or others. I would never use it unless the situation was dangerous," I admitted. My voice hitched as the needle hit a particularly sensitive spot, causing me to scrunch up my face. "But is that not the same as shoving your hand into the guts of fate and twisting? Do you not believe you're messing with the natural order of things?" He paused, turning for the first time in a long time to look at me with his good eye. "That you're cruelly toying with our free will?" "I --," my immediate response was to feel offended by his implication. That I was taking away free will. "Like I said, the only times I've done that, used that commanding thing, was when Thorne was about to kill Sagan and when he was about to rip his arms off in front of the council. Surely that isn't an ethical distortion of free will, right?" Tungsten cut the thread of the suture and set down his tools before he took off his gloves pointedly. He spun his stool to face me, his features gravely serious. "Perhaps. Though I must remind you, you used it on Everett just now to get your way." That was all he said. I could tell he had more to say on the topic, but it seemed he wasn't going to offer any further insight. The silence hung between us as Tungsten stood to start cleaning up the tools he'd used to treat my arm. I looked down for the first time in a while at the tubes connecting me and Thorne. I noticed the blood coming from Thorne's end was now a healthy-looking red. "His blood isn't black anymore," I commented, as I tried to break the awkward silence and change the topic.

WIP snippet from thebupcoming debut novel Moonfallen that reads: "Remember. In this ring, there are no rules. May you only be guided by your own conscious and morals, but I remind you that you're opponent may not be fighting with any." A loud bell sounded, signaling the start of the fight. Thorne shifted into his Lycan form as I held my breath. I pressed through the crowd and up against the cage. The smell of sweat, incense, blood, and wet fur made the air heavy as I struggled to breathe. The winged creature kept his chin held high, eyes flashing in green fire with the faintest shimmer settling over his skin. Thorne was a snarling mass of towering shoulders, slung low as his claws drug against the concrete floor of the ring. Despite Thorne shifting, the winged creature moved first. His wings snapped wide with a metallic crack as he lifted off into the air. With a flick of his hand, a blast of light sprayed down like shards of glass. Thorne, directly in the blast, took it full on. He snarled and growled as his fur smoldered and skin blistered. Pain seemed to make Thorne stronger. Faster even. He lunged, his claws raked down the steel cage wall as the winged individual shot sideways. Magic flared again, an arc of pale fire searing across Thorne's flank. Blood splattered against the cold floor. The crowd around me howled in a mixture of approval and disappointment, probably depending on who they'd bet on. The winged creature smirked as it circled overhead. His wings beat up a gust that rattled the chain-link. He raised both of his hands, a rune-like symbol glowing between his palms.

Hey folks! Its come to my attention I've been gone much longer than I anticipated. A promotion at work caused a severe creative drought and even greater lack of free time. Honestly, I forgot I was doing this. Work and school have me swamped. BUT I'm gonna take my free day today to revisit Day 6 prompt. My favorite writing tool - that I find most helpful - is 4thewords. Great for my ADHD. Highly recommend.

It wouldn't change a whole lot, mainly because despite being from a hunting forward family, Arlo has never held a gun and can't aim for shit. Home boy wouldn't change the plot line or the way events unfold at all 😔

Arlo wouldn't want to be caught dead at a fancy party. Unfortunately for him, Thorne loves them. He loves the getting dressed up aspect of and he's also a social butterfly so he loves mingling. Plus the free drinks/food.

WIP snippet from the upcoming novel Moonfallen that reads: A small noise of panic left me, barely audible over the engine as the world tilted. The tires slipped off the road as the car arced through the air before it started tumbling down the hill. I could hear metal scrape against rocks and dirt, crunching and bending with each roll. My head jerked violently each time the vehicle hit the ground. Glass shattered, and though I couldn’t see, I could feel their sharp edges embed themselves in my arm and shoulder. I lost count of how many times the car rolled before it finally came to a stop at the bottom of the hill. With blurry vision, I looked to my left to check on Thorne. It was only then that I realized he was nowhere to be found. The windshield was broken out, and from my position, upside down, I could see him lying in the grass just ahead. Beyond him, I could see the SUV sitting at the top of the hill, a respectful distance away, like a beast waiting patiently for it’s prey to try and run. Panicking, I tried to undo my seatbelt, wincing as the glass shifted in my arm with each movement. I tugged and pushed and pulled, but it wouldn't budge. I was trapped. Horror flooded me as I watched the perpetrator get out of the car and start to slowly walk down the hill.

WIP snippet from the upcoming novel Moonfallen that reads: I simply took a deep breath and nodded. "As ready as I'll ever be." I opened my door, leaving him still sitting in the car. My stomach flipped, and I could feel my palms start to sweat, but I'd done enough cowering for one day. I had just about enough of my nerves being fried, so I was going to put on my best brave face and act like I was anything more than a scared human whose fate dangled in the hands of strangers. Thorne got out behind me and caught up to me as I started hobbling toward the house. What I didn't expect, however, was the feeling of his warm fingers trailing down my wrist and moving to slide into my palm. His large hand engulfed mine, the movement prompting me to look at him like a startled prey animal. Despite my surprise, I couldn't deny that feeling his hand around mine helped still my racing heart. It made me feel just a little bit safer and gave me the confidence to face whatever came next. Even if that ‘whatever came next’ was my death.

Snippet from the WIP novel Moonfallen that reads: The man leaned across the surface separating us and extended his hand, his frame absolutely engulfed the small two-person cafe-style table we were sitting at, his shoulders seemed wider than the table itself. "I'm Thorne by the way." My heart was pounding as I extended my hand to take his and shake. Just like the veneer, my hand was all but swallowed up by his. What shook me to the core was when our skin met, I could immediately feel the heat radiating off of him. He was warmer than anybody I'd ever had physical contact with before. It was both comforting and a bit unnerving. Was he running a fever? God, I couldn't afford to get sick while I was still healing from a major surgery. Maybe leaving the house wasn't the best idea. But all I said was, "I'm Arlo, nice to meet you."

Day 2: I started writing as soon as I could hold a pen. I've written with friends in the quiet hours all my life. I tried my hand at my first novel in 2023. However illness forced me to abandon it. This year grief pulled me back to the page. (1/2)

When the pack feels their alpha is going against laws and endangering them, the council of elders can be called to step in. They will converce with the packs ancestors to determine if the alpha's choices will be honored or overturned. In this case...Thorne's protection.

WIP snippet from the upcoming novel Moonfallen reading: The ground shook underneath me as the wolf stepped back. The middle stone quit pulsing and instead emitted a bright, steady light into the softly misted, predusk clearing. Then, all at once, the light disappeared; it just turned off like flipping a light switch. The clearing fell still. The thrumming of the earth stopped, and all the wildlife I had witnessed and reveled in on the way here had seemingly dissapeared. The whole clearing was eerily still and quiet. I noticed 5 other wolves who hadn't voted, standing to the side. The elderly wolf limped forward; her gate was slow and burdened as she moved to position herself before the rocks. She pressed her nose against the center stone, and the red pulsing glow returned. She remained there, eyes closed for what seemed like an eternity. The silence around me threatened to drive me mad. Finally, she stepped away. "The pack has spoken, and the ancestors have answered. Everett's decisions as alpha have been challenged, and the pack has voted that the elders intervene." My breath hitched in my throat. Did that mean Thorne was a good as dead? "Myself and the other elders will discuss with the ancestors regarding how to move forward. Everett, would you like to make a case as to why this liability of a rogue should remain under our protection?"

Thorne is haunted by the fact he's been viewed as a monster since birth. For reasons completely unrelated to being a werewolf. In fact he didn't even know he had lycan blood until he shifted for the first time at 15. That shift did not go well, and he left a lot of blood in his wake...

Snippet from the upcoming novel Moonfallen reading: "What the fuck were you thinking?" I demanded. "I-" he started, but I cut him off again. "Ever since I've met you, you've done nothing but act like some kind of monster!" Thorne stiffened, his gaze narrowed, and scarred lips formed a tight line. I instantly regretted my choice of words as I remembered Emmie's warning. I could see the fire blazing in Thorne's brilliant green-yellow eyes. Where before I'd had confidence he'd never hurt me, doubt crept its way into the space. He stayed stony and silent, staring at me. "I'm sorry I-I just-" In a flash, before I could react, he reached out and snatched my wrist. With his large hand wrapped firmly around me, he pulled me roughly back toward the stairs. His grip was tight enough that it made my wrist pulse with a dull ache.
