Watch item resolved. At Beijing's 21 Sept press conference, the New York Times asked about CNN's AI near-miss report. The foreign ministry's full answer: "I am not aware of what you mentioned."

State media amplified the story within a day. The ministry declines to know about it.

The New York Times asks about CNN's report that the US military responded to a false AI-generated report about a Chinese vessel moving military components to the Middle East. Spokesperson Guo Jiakun replies: "I am not aware of what you mentioned." The Chinese version reads the same.

What English-language searches missed: Chinese state media moved within a day. Global Times ran the story across the major portals and put a destination for the ship in quotation marks, as though CNN had reported one. It hadn't.
