The academic discussions on #degrowth and #postgrowth predominantly take place in ecological economics. But Catarina Neves and I show that there is also relevant work that political philosophers are doing, and even much more that they could do: compass.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/...
The Political Philosophy of Postgrowth and Degrowth
This article discusses the emerging field of the political philosophy of degrowth and postgrowth. ‘Postgrowth’ and ‘degrowth’ are visions of socio-economic systems that do not focus on GDP and econom...

My May Day two cents:

1. The 8-hr workday was a big victory but it's way past time for the next big victories, which should be universal basic income and a 4-day workweek.

2. On International Workers' Day we should be sure to recognize unpaid work as work. Unions should fight for UBI for ALL work.
Why Don't Trade Unions Support an Unconditional Basic Income (Precisely When They Should)?
The apparently simple idea of an unconditional universal Basic Income has gotten very complicated. The more mainstream the idea becomes, the more embrangled it is, although at least something has beco...

This may be the single most incisive thing I have read on social media today.
Fear & concern are coded feminine, so they get translated into anger, which feels more tough.

Hurt & disappointment are coded feminine, so they get translated into outrage & aggrievement.

The simple human need for love & affirmation is coded feminine, so it gets translated into demands & control.

If inequality had remained the same as it was in 1975, every American adult could be getting a universal basic income of $16k a year right now instead of the top 1% sucking it all up for themselves. GET MAD.
Sen. Bernie Sanders highlighted a new analysis showing that the wealthiest 1% has extracted $79 trillion from the bottom 90% of Americans since 1975. In 2023 alone, $3.9 trillion was redirected upward—enough to provide every U.S. worker with a $32,000 raise.

It’s scary figuring out that the system is rigged.

It’s easier to believe that you’re just not working hard enough than it is to accept you’re being screwed over by those at the top.
