Director of the Railway Heritage Trust. But I get distracted by military history, the natural world, Yorkshire, classic aircraft, beer, cheese…etc etc
The tram system in Prague is excellent. The PID app makes ticketing simple and Google sorts out journey planning. It just emphasises how far Leeds has been left behind in public transport provision.

Enjoying the design vibe of the Prague Metro system

Big shout out to the great work of the Western Heights Preservation Society, & especially Phil & Selina for leading Sunday’s morning tour of the Drop Redoubt Dover. Fascinating stories and some great restoration work of an English Heritage property #dropredoubt #westernheights

There is a derelict former open air theatre in West Park Hull. The local Hull & District Society of Model Engineers run their trains around it. Would be great if the theatre could be restored. It suffered a fire some years ago.

Nice walk in the North Pennines this afternoon from Alston north up the Pennine Way then back alongside the South Tynedale Railway.

On my way to Morecambe and we’ve just gone through Keighley - nice to see the restored Platform 1 waiting room which @railwayheritage.bsky.social supported.

Lovely tiled pictures on the shopfront of WHSmiths (or whatever it’s now called) in Great Malvern.

Fort Victoria - the oldest Victorian fortification on the Isle of Wight - in military use from 1852 to 1962. Only the casemates remain. #isleofwight #palmerstonforts

Fantastic concert by Kraftwerk yesterday in Stockton in the Art Deco shrine that is the Stockton Globe. Not often you go a concert to admire the OHL of a Trans-Europe-Express.

Beautiful morning on the Wensleydale
Railway enjoying the Yorkshire Dales scenery and some of the projects we have supported over the years. Hares, rabbits and partridge in the fields, the woods carpeted by wild garlic. In the distance the sound of a Crompton approaching Leeming Bar.

Fish and chips at The Mermaid Cleethorpes Station yesterday - it used to be the first class waiting room.

One of my favourite pastimes is finding the foundries where drain covers came from on the maps on the National Library of Scotland website. This drain cover is from East Howdon on the north bank of the Tyne, a long way from Barnard Castle where it was made.

A walk down the Tyne yesterday from the city centre to North Shields - lots of reminders of Newcastle’s industrial past along the way. The Grade II listed 1837-39 Willington Viaduct which now carries the metro is particularly impressive.

I love Icelandic churches. This one is at Hellnar on the Snaefellsnes peninsula. It’s a style I’d call distressed Wes Anderson. At least the third building on this site, the others had to be replaced on account of the weather.

Reykolt in western Iceland - home of medieval saga writer Snorri Sturluson, a place where you realise that York and Iceland were culturally much closer in the past.

Hallgrimskirkja - Reykjavik’s amazing cathedral - only completed in 1986 and designed by architect Gudjon Samuelsson, I climbed the tower which gives all round views of the capital city.

Good to travel from Peterborough to Doncaster behind 91107. I remember the launch of it in February 2013 with its iconic Skyfall livery, one of the best. No sign of Naomie Harris today.

Had a wander round the site of the Royal Ordnance Factory at Newton Aycliffe this morning before my
site visit to Heighington Station this morning - a few original buildings left but hard to tell it was ever there.

My heart jumped when I saw the original weighbridge….and the original Pooley scales - and they were even gifted the last station master’s cap.

A very well deserved NRHA winner
At an NRHA winner’s plaque unveiling yesterday at the former Ebberston Station, N Yorks. Carol & Mark Benson have (re)created a period NER country station as a holiday let. They also have 3 MkII coaches where you can stay - attention to detail is impeccable.

Replica Rocket put through its paces at Locomotion Shildon yesterday, passing the recently restored coal drops.

Went along to the monthly demonstration of the L&YR signalling School at the NRM this morning - in the Guinness Book of Records as the oldest working model railway in the world. Highly recommend a visit. Dates from 1912 - used to be in Manchester Victoria offices, now in York.

Not seen one of these before, but perhaps I need to look underneath more footbridges. The 19th century Grade II* listed Midland Railway footbridge at Stamford and its 21st century Paint Identification Plate.
