I partly agree with this, but I would include another factor: "rich or poor, millions of people are incapable of understanding how their interests relate to government policy, which is why we had business owners and teamsters voting for tariffs and trade wars that are bad for both of them."
I genuinely think one thing I'm learning from the Trump II situation is that while it's true the poor don't vote in their interests it turns out neither do the rich. Competent economic stewardship would be better but they massively over value ephemeral stats goods they erroneously believe he grants.
