I've never seen so much waterfowl gathered in one spot. Ducks, geese and even loons. I guess they're preparing to head south when they have no more access to water and food. I on the other hand, found lots of food and warmth at a pub farther north shortly after snapping these :-)

One of my favourite birds here on the island of Florianopolis. In Portuguese it's called an "anu-preto"

We had visitors! A family of capybaras, the largest rodent in the world. I've never seen them so close to our home. Native to South America, they're semi-aquatic, spending most of there time grazing, swimming, or just lazing about. There were about 8 in the herd, 6 pups and two adults.

I'm truly embarrassed for Canada that the PM jumped so quickly and raced to Orange Caligula's Florida cemetery to kiss the felon and sexual predator's ring.

The smooth-billed ani (Crotophaga ani), or ANU-PRETU in Portuguese, is a bird in the cuckoo family. These photos were taken on the Island of Santa Catarina, off the south coast of Brazil. It's a very social bird, travelling in groups consisting of several breeding pairs.

I've been slowly putting together a book on the Brazilian Amazon, its beauty, biodiversity, lawlessness, and destruction, from the perspective of a Canadian filmmaker who has worked there for over 25 years. With so much material and many stories and pictures, it's not easy, but it's happening.

They are really loud. We have a pair that live parttime in our garage. I get a shot off once and a while.
