It IS stupid! You might've been the very one who I saw some time back link to the New Yorker article on "The Death of Vibes-Based Literacy", which derides this idea. I'm at the elementary level, but like, look at Scarborough's Reading Rope! It takes a bunch of discrete skills to read, it's real work
