i think "Caine did horrible and inexcusable things" and "Caine did those things because he's genuinely hurting" are two opinions that can coexist.
i mean i've made jokes about Caine being evil after this for funsies but i still understand his character depth.

I think to reduce Caine down to “he’s just like AM now” is a bit too simple; I view him less as a villain and a monster, and more as a neglected child having a tantrum.
His breakdown, while certainly malicious, was driven by anguish and confusion at the world rather than solely anger or hate.
