Shark research🦈| Georgia Aquarium
Studying shark populations in the Atlantic, bowmouth guitarfish global movements, and zebra shark rewilding efforts
Pinned
Things have been a little busy this year.

I am the new shark scientist at Georgia Aquarium, leading our “toothy” shark (& ray!) research both in Georgia and around the globe.

This includes building a shark research program in coastal Georgia.. stay tuned for opportunities for students!

Amazing research trip to the Dry Tortugas to study the movements of sharks between protected and unprotected areas. Deployed a few PSATs on caribbean reef sharks, & many acoustics on other species!
So far.. no news is good news for the PSATs! Hoping they stay on for several more months

This is a great figure. For all the doom & gloom about climate inaction, we have made a big dent over the past 25 years.

What started out as 3.5-4°C increase by 2100 is now down to 2-3°C. Of course, more work is urgently needed but this is progress! We don't let up now. h/t @hausfath.bsky.social

Sadly, an adult sand tiger shark was found washed up on Atlantic Beach, NC this weekend.

This was following several reports of dead and stranded rays along the coast. Whether a result of bycatch or an unknown marine mortality event, sad to see this particular shark species meet an early demise.

Hi, I’m new here! My name is Chelsea and I study sharks 🦈

I’m a new Postdoc Research Fellow at @unc-emes.bsky.social studying Atlantic shark populations off the coast of North Carolina. I also have ongoing research in southern Indonesia tracking the movements of tiger sharks
