When A Wizard of Earthsea was first translated into Japanese, it was renamed "Record of Ged War", which is weird not only because Ged does not fight a war and the series is ideologically anti-war, but because "Earthsea" seems like it'd just sound awesome to a Japanese reader

Started reading the Bible in Japanese for some medieval language inspiration, but felt it was weirdly easy to read. Realized it was a new translation so went and found a Meiji era translation, started reading and it was nigh incomprehensible, exactly what I was looking for

It’s worse than this. Having been in the room with many of them (long ago, before I knew they were psychopaths), the tycoons who are left running the industry have an active contempt for ordinary people, including their own workers. They actively want to oppress, control and punish them.
Tech execs do not have, like, a theory of mind for people who aren’t tech execs. If they did, they wouldn’t be so frequently baffled by how repulsive normal people think their whole deal is right now
