cat mehrak, anyone? 👀 (and ofc, #haikaveh too)
“Don’t judge me. The dating pool only shrinks with age, and I’m what—almost thirty?” “Plenty of time to settle down.” Alhaitham rubs Mehrak’s ears, and she leans into his touch. What betrayal. “You’re acting like you’ll wither away if you don’t get another date by next week.” “You don’t get it,” says Kaveh, shaking his head. “Sometimes, I think I’ll never leave this house.” Alhaitham’s hand stills on Mehrak’s head. His expression is carefully neutral, or in other words, practically unreadable. Nevertheless, his passivity isn’t perfect, and the subtle clench of his jaw is hard to miss for someone who knows Alhaitham as well as Kaveh does. “You want to move out?” asks Alhaitham.

mild 🔞 more from the #haikaveh love potion wip!! i wasn’t able to finish it before going back to college (rip) but hopefully i can still finish it soon 🫠🫶
“I told you nothing is wrong,” Kaveh borderline hissed. The longer he stood by the doorway with him, the more lecherous thoughts sprouted to the forefront of his mind. Alhaitham’s ample chest in his face was not helping. “Now let me through.” Never one to listen to Kaveh, Alhaitham plucked one of the books from his hands, and Kaveh scrabbled to keep his hold on the other two. Alhaitham turned the book over and read the title, printed in gold on the cover. “How to Manage Your Libido: A Guide to Navigating Masturbation Addiction,” Alhaitham read. One corner of his lip raised. “Interesting research you’ve got here.”

#haikaveh snippet from love potion wip (prayer circle that i can finish this before i am cast away to college…)
“You said it, not me.” Alhaitham reached for his glass of water. “Do you always accept drinks from strangers?” Kaveh’s hand paused between his plate and his mouth. “Huh? You mean from the bartender?” He laughed. “Who else would I accept drinks from?” “I don’t keep tabs on your company.” “What—are you jealous?” Kaveh teased. “If you loosened up, you could have good company too.” Alhaitham hummed. “I already have good company.” He sipped his water.

🔞 i am attempting to write explicit smut for the first time (woohoo!) and it’s going to be #kavetham so have a pre-smut snippet :)
“Have you considered that he’s nervous? It’s not easy taking a pole up the ass, you know.” “Alhaitham? Nervous?” Kaveh shook his head. “I doubt it. He’s never been one to shy away from communication either—for better or worse. If he wanted to top, I’d let him.” He shrugged. Across the table, Tighnari wore a look of surprise. “I thought that was a dealbreaker for you.” “It’s Alhaitham.” Kaveh sipped his drink, then set it down. “There are no dealbreakers.” “And if he never wants to have sex with you?” “Then I’ll use my left hand for the rest of my life,” Kaveh said simply. “He’s it for me.”

and here’s chapter 1 in case you want to read it before i post chapter 2 some time this week: archiveofourown.org/works/89916706
“Do you hate me?” With a single push over the edge, Kaveh’s heart shattered. “Haitham, look at me,” said Kaveh, and Alhaitham turned his head toward him, evidently attempting to maintain an indifferent expression but failing miserably. “I don’t hate you. How could I hate you?” “Not me. Not yet,” said Alhaitham, his voice tight, squeezed of any emotion that could drip out. “Him.” “I know,” said Kaveh, lips curling up sadly. “I know you meant him. And I said, how could I?”

#haikaveh alhaitham’s grandma will make an appearance tomorrow ;)
She laughs merrily. “I only say what I see. You must be—hm. Two years older than my grandson?” “I’m fourteen.” “Ah, yes. My grandson’s twelve, almost thirteen.” At the rice-selling stall, she holds up one finger to signal for one rice bag. “He’s the loveliest kid. Well-behaved. A good heart, much like yours.” She nudges Kaveh good-naturedly. “Extraordinarily smart too. Always has his nose buried in a book.” She shakes her head in affection, fondness buzzing off her. “Ah! I’m rambling, aren’t I?” “Not at all,” says Kaveh, proving himself to be every bit of the sweet boy she knows he is. “Your grandson sounds wonderful.” “He is,” she says, a wistful note woven in her voice. “My pride and joy.”

#haikaveh streaming au snippet ;)
“Trying to be cute, huh?” teases Kaveh, affectionate. “It’s working.” His voice is carefully low, but Alhaitham’s high-quality microphone picks up every last syllable—as it should, considering the hefty amount of mora he spent on his streaming equipment. Then, he reaches up and tousles Alhaitham’s hair, his fingers lightly scratching his scalp the way he likes. Tingles shoot down Alhaitham’s body, and he grimaces in order to conceal his reaction. Before he can swat the hand away, Kaveh steps back, a twinkle glinting off his eyes, and leaves their bedroom. The door closes, and Alhaitham stares there for a prolonged beat before he puts his headphone shell on his ear and turns back to his monitor. The chat explodes.

#haikaveh a continuation of sorts from the last time travel snippet…

i wonder what little alhaitham could possibly be misunderstanding!! hm
“You only refer to us as friends when you want something.” “We aren’t— That is to say I wouldn’t call us friends anymore,” Kaveh said sheepishly, breaking the truth. Alhaitham had made that fact more than clear last night. He studied the Alhaitham before him, who was oh-so-unaware of the many fights and sleepless nights to come. The last thing Kaveh wanted to do was hurt him like he’d done in the past. “We’re not friends?” said Alhaitham, eyes blown wide. His lips parted as if he didn’t expect Kaveh’s answer—which was fair, considering that Kaveh would be surprised too if he was his age. “Oh.” However, contrary to Kaveh’s expectations, Alhaitham appeared… pleased. No, that couldn’t be right, Kaveh decided. His ability to read Alhaitham dwindled over the years. After all, Alhaitham never looked pleased around him nowadays.

Then, on another unsuspecting day: “I overheard Uncle say that Baba ‘has a thing’ for people with grey hair,” Mehrak had mused. “What thing does he have?” “Not sure,” Alhaitham had said like a liar. Crumbs of curiosity piled in his mind the more Mehrak spoke about her Baba. But then again, kids tended to have warped perceptions of their parents anyway.

archiveofourown.org/works/89087936
He thought of him often. How could he not when he was everywhere? The annotations left in dated research journals. The empty space sitting next to him at a bench built for two. The mirror when he stared at it for too long. He was inescapable, no matter how many years of distance accumulated between them. But rarely was Kaveh honest with himself. I don’t miss him, he’d think while walking through the markets. It’s better this way, he’d tell himself when he’d hear his name in passing. I’ve moved on, he’d reassure his mirrored reflection when flashes of their fight invaded his mind. Once his sober mind fell to intoxication, the lies crumbled. Truth was a greedy, attention-seeking little thing—he could only ignore it for so long before it came knocking on his door, demanding acknowledgment.

Dehya flicked her wrist in a waving motion. “No, no. None of that. I’m just curious about what type of person could have the Grand Sage of Sumeru wrapped around his finger.” “Acting Grand Sage,” corrected Alhaitham. “And he does not have me wrapped around his finger.” “Oh, please. You’re not fooling anybody, least of all, me,” said Dehya, teasing and cocksure. “Just last month, you confessed to using his shampoo while he’s away on work trips because—your words, not mine—it makes your pillow smell like him.” Alhaitham swallowed with an appropriate amount of shame. “I am not responsible for what I say while inebriated.”

sneak peek of time travel fic 👀 it’ll be more angsty than my last one ;)
“Would it kill you to be thoughtful for once?” Kaveh pleaded as Alhaitham walked him to his room. “You know—” His voice caught in his throat. “You know how it’s been for me. Please. We were friends once. Doesn’t that mean anything to you?” They stopped under the doorway of Kaveh’s bedroom. Kaveh had one hand on the doorframe for support now that Alhaitham’s hands were off him. Through unfocused eyes, he looked at Alhaitham, begging for a crumb of leniency, of kindness, with his gaze. “Friends,” Alhaitham echoed. His mouth curled around the word as if tasting it with bitter displeasure. “Funny. You only refer to us as friends when you want something.”

I put haikaveh in a situation again 🧍 (fic coming soon)
The archons must hear his pleas because Alhaitham stirs a moment later. He shifts around, winces, then blinks slowly until his eyes become accustomed to the dim environment. When his eyes land on him, his mouth parts, and “Kaveh?” comes out. “Kaveh,” he repeats, as if experimenting with how the word sounds from his lips. Kaveh. Is that his name? Kaveh, he mouths. The syllables are foreign on his lips, but the name resonates with him regardless. Kaveh. Yes, that must be his name. “Alhaitham,” he responds, unable to think of another thing to say. He watches Alhaitham undergo the same mental processing, mouthing his own name and all, as him.
