The jpegging bugged me, so I tracked down the original:

Source is the bottom of this tumblr post:

Tumblr embeds a jpeg version with '.pnj' as the extension, but changing .pnj to .png gives the original quality file I linked to.

In a way, it reminds me of this picture, titled "weird people fall in love with each other all the time" by Sumiaou (AKA fireflufferz):

It's just so precious and wholesome to see the more human side of us weirdos being portrayed.

… very good at all when it comes to getting the shapes right for some of the more.. Obscure characters.

Do any of your fonts support 'Ⱥ', 'Ȼ', 'ȼ', 'Ⱦ', 'ʥ', or 'Σ', to name a few of the problematic characters? I'm really curious how others implement them in a bitmap font!

Here's mine of those:

In 1959, they did do bit of a larger study, but measured color across 10 degrees instead of the 2 degrees in the original study, so the data isn't quite directly comparable. It had a sample size of 49 people, though four of those people did the test twice.

Not as different as you might think. Here's a plot of the variation measured in 10 different people in 1955.

Source (has this figure, an excel spreadsheet of the data, and more in-depth descriptions of what it means (by clicking the circled i by 'Further information')):
