a screenshot from an interactive fiction game. it reads: "Hello there." We are awoken by a voice like a clumsy note on a ceramic flute. You open your eyes and what we see before you is not quite human, but almost. Skin painted like blue porcelain, chipped and weathered. A face with a crack running across it and two eyes of different size and color. It is a woman, and in her chest is a glowing rock, pulsating, with a black thread looped through a break in its center. Most unusually, she is upside down. "You seem to be hanging from a tree. Is that. . ." she tilts her head for a moment and pauses, looking for the word. ". . .intentional?" Your brow furrows and your head swings around, looking for something. The woman takes a tentative step forward and questions again. "Hello? Are you ok? Do you need help getting down?" *Without turning back to her you ask, "Who are you?" We are the Tapestry. The woman answers, "I'm Hyacinth. Are you from around here?" She looks up at herself, or down, given our orientation, and frowns for a moment before meeting your eyes again, smiling. "I must seem strange. But don't worry, I'm just passing through. Are you fine up there, then?" "What is the tapestry?" Us. Hyacinth takes another probing step. "I'm. I'm not sure what you're talking about." There's uncertainty in her voice for just a moment and then she comes back with "The blood is probably rushing to your head." It is. "Let me help you get down." another screenshot from the same interactive fiction game. it reads: "I don't understand." Neither does Hyacinth. She leans the large staff she has been carrying against the tree, and shielding her eyes with her hand she stares up through the branches, trying to see how you are stuck. "Hm?" She says, almost as if she didn't hear you. "It looks like your foot is caught on something, but I can't quite see it." And then, to herself she adds, "Maybe I can find a squirrel to help? Or a bird?" "I don't care about that. Give me an actual answer. Who are you? For that matter who am I?" We are going to fall. Your words snap Hyacinth's attention back to us. "I'm sorry. I'm a golem. Have you not seen one before? I was sure there would be many in Ternie." She smiles. You think it looks oddly sinister when she does, the curve of lips that look like porcelain. But you are upside down. This is not surprising. "I can't. Tell you who you are though. I don't know. We just met." Her smile widens without artifice. "But when we get you down, I'd love to help you figure that out. If you'd like." "That doesn't matter. I—" You start to say when your foot, caught in the crook of a branch, slips loose and you crumple head first into the ground. You hear a thunk as Hyacinth's staff falls with you and Hyacinth rushes to your side. "Are you ok?" she runs cold, hard fingers through your hair, searching for a wound she will not find. You are unhurt, but suitably embarrassed.

fun fact, the novel im slowly working on originally started as pachuari fanfiction. and then i made them nuns in 1709 provence and was like “well this isnt fanfic anymore is it?”
