If scientists had tried to create a sociopathic menace to society in a lab, they probably couldn't have surpassed what the Trumps managed to accomplish in a 20-year period.

Took just a minute to comment. They might as well hear from non-weirdos.
What can you do? Leave a public comment on these Census changes. You have until Nov 2. You can write as little or as much as you want. The govt has to review and acknowledge these comments, which become part of the record they have to engage with before changes.

In terms of consequences, the changes would have two effects. First, they would eliminate existing demographic data that we use for things like estimating racial inequality. That is by design, of course. Second, it would make the Census less accurate by discouraging non-citizens from participating.

What a fucking ghoul.
Michael Tracey published what he said was the ID of the "Jane Doe" in the Cornell case. Then he took it down, claiming he just wanted to make a point and didn't want to see harm to the person he named.

What he hasn't admitted is that he mistook info on a sketchy site for official NY court records.

Unfortunately, America, that's not how it works. You had *one* chance to make the right choice in 2024 and you blew it. Now you have to live with the consequences.

"Why should Canadians trust Americans who have twice elected someone they consider a venal, dangerous buffoon? They could excuse them for being 'tricked' the first time. But electing him again, by a bigger margin the second time, tells them all they need to know." — @brynntannehill.bsky.social

mind you, birth of a nation is a movie so insanely racist that it legitimately should make you question whether the medium itself is evil

Every time they talk about having a bigger tent, it feels more like they're taking the same size of tent and just moving the center pole to the right. They think that will put more new people into the tent than they lose on the left, and they're always wrong, but they believe it anyway.

Nicely put.
I want to emphasize this point (as well as a reminder I am speaking only for myself, I am not speaking for anyone else, and this is posted on personal social media and newsletter)

Yup
Sam Altman, Elon Musk, and Dario Amodei calling for AI development to slow down—but not, you know, just doing that at the companies they control—while Donald Trump is president smells like an attempt at regulatory capture.

Don't let the bigots set the agenda for the nation.

Don't try to meet them halfway, or justify your stance.

Don't dignify this as something worth debating.

Dismiss them as hateful weirdos whose obsession with this issue automatically disqualifies them from polite company and political leadership.

The fact that significant swathes of the media ignore the multiple major Republican campaign staffers outed as Neo-Nazis (to focus on Hasan Piker instead) is journalistic malpractice.

So much this. Conceding part of their argument and framing doesn’t win over people who want transphobia and depresses those who favor equality and inclusion. Plus they’re going to paint you as pro-trans anyway! Own it!
Throwing the targets of bigotry to the wolves is self-defeating.

Civil rights are uncomfortable (since accepting that we need to do something about them is reckoning with the fact that you have been party to harm up to now), but -always- good politics to candidates not exploiting hatred.
