I think games have always been a mix of derivative and more original work (e.g. if you play action rpgs from the 80s.. some are less inspired than others. Certainly there's tons of games coming out today that are inspired by life experience - just like Pikmin or Zelda were. And I think it's worth noting that Pikmin and Zelda were *also* made because of the success of 90s PC RTSs, or 80s Adventure Action RPGs -not only directorial life experiences. (And it's also worth noting that even with lots of life experiences, a total lack of game design thinking/experience can lead to a game that is kind of flat, perfunctory, or like a less-vital version of another medium - one needs both) The other thing is that 'artistic experience' in a game today will inherently look different from the 80s/90s since the economic conditions are different. If one wants to, they could pine endlessly over (Insert 90s/80s game here) never coming back. But I think this kind of thinking is counterproductive, rather, one should look to what's uniquely valuable about the current historical moment since it's impossible to recreate e.g. "Sega of the 90s" or "Sierra of the 80s" etc. The two posts I am replying to

A short Deltarune comic. Susie begins to put on Ralsei’s hat from chapter 1, looking mischievous. She says “Heh, Ralsei, I got your hat!” Ralsei turns around to look at her. When she puts the hat on, she becomes only a dark silhouette, like Ralsei does when they wear the hat. She jumps back, surprised, and yells “What the hell?! Who turned out the lights?!” Ralsei looks on bashfully and says “Oh, that’s my shadowcloak hat…” In a bonus comic in black and white, susie, still in shadow form, bashfully muses to herself “damn. I do look pretty badass tho. I wonder…” She climbs up on a ladder so that she can drop the hat on an unexpecting Kris as they pass by. They look up curiously as the hat falls onto their head, and then in a dramatic splash panel the hat lands and they take on their shadow form, a menacing dark shape with just a single glowering red eye. Susie sees this and remarks “why so goddamn scary??”

An amusing interaction occurs in Super Mario 64 DS if Yoshi brings a Koopa Troopa to the mountain in Bob-omb Battlefield and spits him out on the steep hill. The Koopa will bounce merrily along the hill until he despawns.
