T2 🐍 will hopefully release by the end of the year, but if i have the time to after I kinda want to see if I can do something 'denpa' with Tlaloc since theyre already quite electromagnetic (Mt. Tlaloc can be a cellular tower too??)

Maybe the northern Tlaloc will brush sides with Shichi since the two of them overlap in their associations...

Of course its also the case that the tlaloque (and other deities in general) themselves vary in appearence already according to the specific function theyre representing, so they were never going to be static to begin with

While kotsujou had a garland of hands (kinda like a buddhist tantric deity, though thats also something that the death gods of mesoamerica wear kakaka

This was also the case with the oni in scr who I designed in a 'vacuum'; youko originally had a decapitated head with a vajra sticking out of her neck and she held her head with a chain

So although these directional tlaloque arent part of any of my scripts yet, when they do arrive their current designs will be used as a base to reinterpret them according to the story they'll appear in

But of course when it comes to character designing for stories its more orientated towards representing them as they're written in the story

Especially in keeping a middle ground between moe and elusive "authenticity"
October 29, 2026 at 2:54 PM
That has also been the case for my other nahua ocs so that I get more used to remolding the iconicgraphic regalia of the gods in the codices, though i feel the recent tlaloque are the best in that regard
October 29, 2026 at 2:54 PM
Thank you! The recent tlaloque were just for practice (actually i was just going to do the southern red one but I cant resist completing groups of four after all so now we have all of the directional tlaloque)

fork found in kitchen: the specter of the mother continues to haunt beyond the text

my western tlaloc already has black body paint in theirs since they took on a more ehecatlian appearence, so to coincide with the deity parallels this one is tlahuizcalpatecuhtli taking on the regalia of the slain chalchiuhtlicue. its the iconographic equivalent of wearing flayed skin
October 27, 2026 at 12:27 AM
this one's the most deviant of the directional tlaloque since the original is mostly covered in black body paint so as to signify being completely one with olin (liquid rubber) and thus prosperous for rain;
October 27, 2026 at 12:27 AM
(there's also another set of tlaloque besides the directional ones in the page following them in the borgia, p.28, that has them with the body paint of 5 different deities, one of them quetzalcoatl; there he takes on his black face paint with yellow at the center, typical of his borgia appearance)
October 25, 2026 at 11:10 PM
so the girl takes on a lot from that depiction, but from the borgia's version they mostly take on their teal skin as well as the vaguely mammal headdress as kemonomimi; i interpret here as a dog headdress, so that she parallels with xolotl's role as the evening star

in this case there is a clear association made with the west and quetzalcoatl (of which he does preside over), so he has a lot of the ehecatl regelia on him like the conical hat, necklace of shells, and the protruding mask...
October 25, 2026 at 11:10 PM
the western tlaloc is typically associated with cloudy floods, not necessarily as bad compared to the south-north tlaloque of droughts but you better have your umbrella ready...as is the case with the directional set, the codex vaticanus b's depiction of them has a lot more specific detail;

also worth noting the term 'the black and red' in nahuatl is used to refer to writings (and by extension drawing since it is equal with writing)
