Kingdom Claude: Not very familiar with Almyra since he's lived in the Kingdom his whole life and his mother died early on. Deeply motivated by the Tragedy to root out the culprits and get justice for Duscur. Uses the "emotionally damaged teenage prince" image to his advantage so no one suspects him of planning anything. With this brilliant tactic, no one will ever find out that he's an emotionally damaged teenage prince. Because of him, the whole group of Faerghus kids had a reputation as huge troublemakers. Alliance Edelgard: Grew up as a commoner, didn't find out about her noble lineage until she was around eleven. Has even more of a reason to hate the nobility and crest systems. Her views skew much more toward opposing class inequality. More outgoing than her usual self, but also not as good at hiding her feelings or opinions. Leonie is her best friend as soon as they meet. She absolutely despises Lorenz initially because everything he says about nobility annoys her. Also keeps trying to get Hilda to take more responsibility, which makes them butt heads a lot, but they have each other's backs in the end. Empire Dimitri: Similarly scarred by the events of his childhood, but the scales are tilted more towards anxiety and paranoia than rage and depression. Will not work with the people who tormented him even if it would be to his advantage, meaning he struggles to gain power once the war starts. Latched onto Hubert as the only person he could rely on. Hubert's dynamic with him is very "Your Highness can you please get it together". Worse at being polite than his normal self. He kind of detaches from reality most of the time so he comes off as aloof and uninterested.

Kingdom Edelgard: People expect her to be incompetent because of her recent trauma, so she's much more focused on proving herself capable. Her guilt and anger over the Tragedy of Duscur show up very differently than Dimitri's. She stays fully fixated on the future, to atone for her quote-unquote failure. Gets along really well with Felix since they both hate chivalry and value skill and pragmatism. Her relationship to Dedue is pretty similar to Dimitri's but she constantly insists he not help her with anything. Starts the war with the goal of eliminating injustice in the whole continent. Empire Claude: Mother was an Almyran diplomat living in the Empire who eventually had to return to her homeland alone. Pretty similar outwardly to his canon self but inside he has a lot more resentment burning. Never talked to a single person about how the Crest experiments affected him and does not plan to. As a kid, Hubert didn't like him because he just saw his carefree persona, but after beating him in a prank war, Claude earned his respect. Now Hubert treats him more like a peer than he would Edelgard, but neither of them are ever sure how much the other is doing behind their back. Alliance Dimitri: The result of a romance between the daughter of the Alliance leader and an outlaw captain. He wasn't considered an heir for most of his childhood, but when his mother died, he was reluctantly accepted. Very eager to please and make friends since he's felt like an outcast for so long, but struggles to stand up for himself. Hilda ends up encouraging him a lot. Not really on purpose, she just keeps hyping him up so he'll do the work instead of her. Lorenz also motivates him inadvertently just by mocking him so much that Dimitri feels like he has to prove him wrong.

Usually when I redesign characters it's because the original is giving iffy misogynistic vibes but with Annette the problem was just that it took away her joy and whimsy
