the infuriating thing about all of the crises going on right now is that they were completely predictable

the second they announced they were gutting food safety monitoring, everyone knew it would lead to a bunch of contamination and recalls! we could have just not done it! it's all so stupid
This summer's food recalls are broader in scope, longer-lasting, and more severe than past years as regulators are slow to respond.

The parasite surveillance staff at the CDC, which responds to outbreaks (such as cyclosporiasis), was downsized last year by DOGE from 11 people to three.

We now know that the parasite-linked iceberg lettuce was shipped to Walmart & food distributors in 27 (!) states

It was for some reason still being sent out up until Thursday July 16

Wild stuff; the Trump admin appears to be getting ready to claim that Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, shot and killed by ICE on his way to work, had multiple baggies of meth just sitting in plain view on the DASHBOARD for anyone to see.

I know the truth is sometimes stranger than fiction, but COME ON.

A fun aside — MSG, owned by Trump pal James Dolan, tried to tell us that the party wasn’t cancelled because of Trump.

And not long after, the NYPD sent an updated statement — yes, it’s cancelled because of the presidential visit.

Here are the statements.

New, from me: The Roberts Court does not want colorblind voting maps. We know that because the easiest way to get such maps would have been to kill partisan gerrymandering. Instead, they upheld it, using it as a means to kill the Voting Rights Act. 🧵
