It's not often they break out the icon with the cactus in it.

I'm giving the AC Shade credit for the fact that it's not warmer than 80°F in my house right now.

Nothing against this poster personally; it's about the sentiment.
When people say, "we have made it through worse before" by Clint Smith all I hear is the wind slapping against the gravestones of those who did not make it, those who did not survive to see the confetti fall from the sky, those who did not live to watch the parade roll down the street. I have grown accustomed to a lifetime of aphorisms meant to assuage my fears, pithy sayings meant to convey that everything ends up fine in the end. There is no solace in rearranging language to make a different word tell the same lie. Sometimes the moral arc of the universe does not bend in a direction that will comfort us. Sometimes it bends in ways we don't expect & there are people who fall off in the process. Please, dear reader, do not say I am hopeless, I believe there is a better future to fight for, I simply accept the possibility that I may not live to see it. I have grown weary of telling myself lies that I might one day begin to believe. We are not all left standing after the war has ended. Some of us have become ghosts by the time the dust has settled.

Cave salamanders!

(at Blanchard Springs Caverns in the Ozark National Forest)
Two cave salamanders on a rock wall at the exit to the cave. They are red and shiny with little black spots all over them. They're long and skinny with a long tail. They have black eyes. One is at the bottom facing left, and one is near the top facing upward and to the left. A cave salamander on the edge of a door at the cave exit. It looks orange in the picture but is actually red with small black spots. It's body is in kind of a stretched S shape, head up and to the right. Its little toes are visible on its feet, spread out on the metal and glass.

(The poor thing was hit by a car outside of the William Carl Garner Visitor Center many years ago and put on display as an example of local wildlife.)

Had to traumatize the cats today with a vet visit, but it's their own fault for deciding to not use the litter boxes. 😿 Also took the opportunity to get rabies vax updates (even tho they never go outside) & "geriatric" blood work done because they're 13 years old. Results tomorrow!

Remember this from yesterday? Yeah, I started a new project. See all the yellow stitching outside the bee? I had to undo ALL that because I started it two rows too low and didn't realize until I got this far. Can't make it look "right" with everything else, so out it came. Fixed now! #WIPWednesday

Some loser leaves stacks of these at work & I usually toss them in the recycling before they're scattered everywhere. But I want to try making seed bombs with native wildflowers. So I'm going to shred this garbage newsprint & mix with soil to make something that *actually* spreads joy and happiness!

It's a good thing my cat's tail is so fuzzy or she'd have some serious burns from trying to put it into a candle on my desk. Instead there was a puff of smoke and I swatted her tail and she ran off. I had to brush off a lot of burned hair but I don't think she knows anything happened.
