Interesting article - not only relevant to hyena (which I obviously love), but this line of research is also relevant to vultures, both as scavengers, and because they are often collateral damage in human-carnivore conflict.

International Vulture Awareness Day is a chance to celebrate them for what they really are: spectacular soaring birds, highly specialised survivors and indispensable members of the ecosystems they help keep clean. 🌿🦅

Dinner time with our vultures 🍽️🪶

Can you spot our chick amongst the adults? The spring arrival was a huge conservation success for us, as it was the first to have been solely incubated by its parents in our Safari Drive-through.

The King Vulture's head is orange, purple, blue, and yellow. The Bearded Vulture eats almost nothing but bone. The Rüppell's Vulture has flown as high as a commercial jet, 37,000 feet.

23 species. None of them boring. 🦅

It's Monday, so let's talk about the most eel-some place in England. That's right..it's Ely time!

Ely is all about eels. Bede wrote in his Ecclesiastical History (c. 700 CE) that Ely took its name from the abundant eels in the nearby fens & waters: Ely means Isle of Eels. 1/3
