I'm certainly not saying I love everything about the current state of the game, but Hillsborough was proof that things had to change. Much of the nostalgia for an idealised football past is vicarious mourning for a society that changed.

What fixed it was the massive injection of cash from the TV deal with sky that financed the construction of safer grounds. Plenty of folk told us that all seater stadia would kill the game, the steadily rising attendances since then would seem to contradict.

There's a weird supposition that there is some nobility in watching football in a crappy dangerous stadium and that all grounds are now full of monocle- wearing toffs and not "working people" The people around me at my club are certainly not stockbrokers, though a bloke ordered a latte last week.

I've been watching football for about 50 years. The prevailing opinion has always been that it was better 20 years ago, including the years when hooliganism very nearly killed the game. Yes it was cheaper in the 80s but fans were literally locked in cages at games.

Lot of people unloading on Keben, but bar that one moment he has actually been decent in the league. I read a W Ham blog last night and even they admitted the ball had gone out for a corner. Also I saw Pollock's absolutely disastrous debut at Millwall - it's all about how you come back from it.

A school I worked in had to be locked down once because a swarm of bees arrived, others I've heard about include dogs in the playground and cows breaking down fences. I suspect such things are more common than people realise.

Though you rarely see a Greggs & a Wenzels in the same high street (Watford being the exception where there is two of each) Wenzels sausage rolls are massively inferior.

Same in Hampstead - signal is terrible at the top end of Finchley Road because very posh & wealthy nimbys stopped the 5g mast. At least they weren't as loopy as the anti-vaxxers who set fire to them.

I saw one with some blatant racism on one of the " Gold" channels though not as bad as the episode of Robin's Nest that followed it.

The only worthwhile homework for primary school children is one out of times tables, reading or spellings - all of which should be done with a parent and without a screen. There's a huge body of research which questions the impact of anything else on younger children
