Worcester City Council will set out a recommendation and options to Members next week, whether to continue with the Conservation Advisory Committee, or whether to move to a Design Review Service. The recommendation seeks to approve that a Design Review Service is set up next year.

A very positive step forward in the campaign for better shopfront design standards in Worcester. A lot of positive ideas and principles within the draft SPD and one that is welcomed for public consultation. This should be approved next Monday.

Warndon Villages is perhaps one of the few where the “Essex Barn” style isn’t out of place, despite being hundreds of miles away. Albeit it has been eroded slightly in recent months.

“A façade that is unique along The Foregate and much of the city” – not my words, the words of the applicant’s heritage consultant who wrote their own heritage statement. Why then – you’d rightly ask – would someone look to remove it?

We remain worried about the potential for an exodus of key anchor tenants of the High Street leaving for Worcestershire Parkway in the future. That is why in February we wrote hearing statements to the SWDPR examination, requesting that no retail development of such a scale can compete with the City
