Neagley, the first attempt to grow the world of Reacher, begins with a confident, character-driven episode without simply copying its formula. Frances Neagley has always been one of the most compelling figures in the Reacher series, she's competent, private, fiercely loyal, and defined as much by what she withholds as by what she reveals. The character was the obvious choice to spinoff from the flagship, and the premiere episode wastes little time establishing that this is her story first.

In something of a confusing move, we find that only a couple of weeks after Amazon released Gal Gadot's abysmal jog-or-die action/thriller, The Runner, Alan Ritchson and Owen Wilson's comedy/actioner, Runner, lands in cinemas. I'm not entirely sure if two such similarly titled films have ever been released to the public so close together before, but it certainly seems like an odd choice for all involved.

After a season that's so far delivered more questions than answers (like any good Noir should), it's time for Jessica Jones to do a fair bit of back tracking to fill in some gaps. Thus, we find that "AKA I Want Your Cray Cray" takes the flashback route to fill in a whole range of holes in a single episode. The main focal point of episode 7 is, of course, explaining the origin story behind Alisa Jones' transformation from Jessica's frustrated mother to rage consumed, murderous super villain and discovering how she got from A to B.

The Season 4 of Reacher arrives at its finale with Cut, a relentless, blood-soaked payoff that somehow still finds room for genuine emotional weight. After seven episodes of growing conspiracy, moral grey areas, and Philadelphia-set tension, the series delivers an episode full of bone crunching action and thrilling Reacher improvisation. It has everything that make the show work: it understands that Jack Reacher is most interesting when the odds are stacked against him, when the violence gets personal, and when the aftermath leaves quiet scars rather than tidy triumphs.

From the moment the episode opens in the smoldering wreckage of the previous week’s car bomb, Antwerp Blues announces itself as a pivotal turning point with Vron Stevenson’s reshaping the series. Richie’s grief is raw and visceral, captured in quiet, devastating moments that humanise a character who could have easily remained a one-note antagonist. Geoff Bell plays those early scenes with a restrained fury, the kind of quiet before the storm that makes the eventual retaliation land with real weight.

Netflix has released the trailer for Animals. When their son is kidnapped, an LA mayoral candidate and his wife scramble to raise the ransom while making choices that could tear their world apart. Directed by and starring Ben Affleck, with Kerry Washington, Steven Yeun, Gillian Anderson, Adriana Paz and Luis Gerardo Méndez, Animals is in select theaters and on Netflix October 9. Episode 5 delivers another chapter of the London crime drama that is full of sustained tension, razor-sharp character work, and explosive dramatic payoff that takes the series into unknown territory. From the opening moments of Funeral For A Friend, the episode announces itself as something special. The Harrigan family faces an impossible invitation: attend the funeral and wake of Tommy Stevenson, the young man whose death has already strained relations between London’s rival criminal empires to the breaking point.

Over the last four episodes, I've been fairly confident that after numerous instances of drip feeding Green Lantern lore into it's gritty detective show stylings, Lanterns would finally haul off and give us the big blowout we've all been waiting for. While I wasn't expecting a full tour of the planet Oa and the various, diverse Lanterns that whizz in and out of the place, I had metaphorically bet the farm that the escalating events in 2016 finally would come to a head - and guess what, here we are.

Could it be that the glowing elixir that keeps Andre Toulon's killer puppets ticking has been heartily injected into their film series too?  It's a fair assumption, considering that the franchise boasts a staggering fourteen installments since 1989; but in order to ensure survival, the gore-slinging gang of playthings have had to make some aesthetic changes in order to keep their little, sculpted heads above water.

Not content to spend 2022 simply resurrecting Pete "Maverick" Mitchell and stuffing him back behind the joysticks of ludicrously fast planes in his glorious Top Gun sequel, Joseph Kosinski was also taking potshots at big pharma courtesy of Spiderhead; a Netflix thriller that tries hard to avoid the streaming premier curse of being instantly forgettable. A gradual, unravelling mystery that sees Chris Hemsworth watching over Miles Teller and Jurnee Smollett as they undergo some really questionable drug trials, it's a flashy, paranoia thriller that possibly could have come from the likes of Tony Scott back in the day - although, there's more than a few similarities to Michael Bay's The Island now that I think about it.

Well, here we are, the season finale of the most consistent and enjoyable season of The Walking Dead in years. I'd pretty much had written off Dead City as probably the most flimsily constructed spin-off that had risen in the wake of the main series of The Walking Dead ending, but thanks to a regime change that saw Seth Hoffman stepping up as showrunner, it's ultimately improved no end.

The second episode of Last Seen delivers a taut, emotional, and dual-perspective story that is a notch above standard missing-person procedurals. Where the premiere established the fractured world of Ian Ridley, this episode builds out the story, forcing characters into a space of fragile hope. Ian, played with straight vulnerability by Patrick Brammall, has sobered up after the initial shock of the remains.

The trailer has been released for Crystal Lake. A prequel to the Friday the 13th franchise, the series follows single mother Pam Voorhees who has been unable to shake her grief after her young, sickly son Jason tragically drowned in the town lake almost a year before. When two strangers arrive at Pam’s door digging into her past, a disturbing chain of events are set into motion, leaving the townspeople of Crystal Lake wondering: just who is Pam Voorhees? Once upon a time, screenwriter Andrew Kevin Walker was Hollywood's go-to guy when it came to grim, uncompromising content thanks to his script for David Fincher's Se7en. It's relentless down-beat tone, suffocatingly misanthropic outlook and devastating ending all made Walker a talent to watch and subsequent scribblings also gave us the similarly dark worlds of 8MM and Sleepy Hollow. But if his work on infantile, 2026 slasher, Psycho Killer is any indication, the man has seemingly lost his knack.

Rat Trap is another great episode of MobLand that delivers escalating pressure, sharp performances, and a tightening noose of suspicion that keeps the series gripping even as it piles on complications. By the time Episode 4 arrives, MobLand has established its world of interlocking criminal families, uneasy alliances, and the constant grind of damage control. Tom Hardy’s Harry Da Souza remains the battered centre of gravity, a fixer whose competence is both his greatest asset and the thing that keeps dragging him deeper into other people’s messes.

While the second season of Jessica Jones has been going great guns, I can't help but feel that, for all of its meaningful themes and gritty aesthetic, it's starting to plateau a little bit. For five whole episodes now, we've watched our flawed heroine manage to creep ever closer to the identity of the super powered murderer after painstakingly following increasingly disparate clues, and while it's proven that Jones hasn't lost her touch, or her relevance, we really need something of big revelation to take us to the next level.

Back in 1998, Practical Magic appeared on the scene to give the whole witch=sisterhood thing an unfeasibly cozy makeover that - to many - acted like the cinematic equivalent of sipping coca while wreathed in a snug onesie. Regardless of my insignificant opinions of some impressively messy pacing issues and a bunch of storytelling problems that seemed unwilling to pick an actual plot thread until about a third of the way in, the frothy comedy featuring Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman as witch sisters trying to find love within a family curse, has amassed a rather sizable cult following over the years.

Kathryn Bigelow's 1991 action classic Point Break is finally getting a sequel with a series set in the same world as the film. More than three decades after the events of the original Point Break film, a new heist crew inspired by the Ex-Presidents has emerged, and the FBI must rely on a mysterious ex-pro surfer with a checkered past to infiltrate them.

Last Seen's opener delivers a taut, emotionally charged introduction to a missing-child mystery that prioritises character over cheap thrills. Apple TV’s new limited series opens in the quiet Australian coastal town of Port McKenna, where former detective Ian Ridley now works as an emergency dispatcher. Eleven years earlier, his three-year-old daughter Maggie vanished from the family home. The official story pinned the crime on an opportunistic outsider, but Ian has never accepted it.

The Gentlemen Season 2 reaches its conclusion with a ferocious, stylish, and ruthlessly effective episode that solidifies everything the series does best while pushing its central character into darker, more compelling territory. What begins as the aftermath of profound personal loss and a violent assault on Halstead Manor quickly escalates to something where no character is safe. Eddie Horniman, still reeling from the sudden and devastating death of his new wife Bella in an attack clearly intended for him, is consumed by the need for answers and retribution.

There's something about a coven of witches that seemingly suggests that 90s era, supernatural sisterhood is a can't-miss recipe for cult immortality. First, there was the beloved kid's film Hocus Pocus, that saw Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy cause all sorts of pantomime mischief which actually managed to score a legacy sequel a couple of years ago. Next came something for the goths, as 1996's The Craft threw a further bone to the weird girls in a teen horror flick that actually pre-dated Scream.

Last episode, Jessica Jones season 2 seemed to hit some sort of an apex as it delivered a tangible emotional connection between the grouchy, traumatised, private eye and the mysterious woman who has been literally tearing people apart who gets in her way. Drawing multiple parallels between what Jessica fears she may become if her rampant misanthropic rage is allowed to run unchecked, it once again proved that, when it comes to forging deep, personal relationships with her various antagonists, Jessica Jones is one of the better heroes to have emerged from the pages of Marvel comics to land on the screen.
