We present a typology of traps to avoid:

1. Believing that AI systems are minds

2. Believing that AI systems are theories

3. Believing that cognitive science can be automated.

Learn to recognise and avoid these traps. Failure to avoid leads to numerous problems.

Like Tarski, she still does not dismiss the essential value of a tractable model.

van Rooij and her colleagues actually reach something of a comparable endpoint to Gödel, specifically for AI, but by very different means. Gödel’s proof is stronger, but applying it raises difficult questions of interpretation. Their result is more practical and less controversial within her field.

Hm, where was I going with that?

Tarski’s undefinability shows that a formal theory cannot define its own truth predicate in a way that is “decidable.” He later recognized that Gödel’s methods prove that. His model centric approach addresses the problem. I’d compare van Rooij’s treatment of tractability to it.
