Taking the ferry to Padre Island is a great way to burn a day as well. Be prepared for longer wait times for the ferry though. It's tradition to get stuck covered in sand and dried salt water waiting for the ferry.

Go ahead and do the Boiling Pot experience if you're not allergic to shellfish. It's kitchy and you kinda really have to love crab to get into it, but it's worth doing if you haven't done it before. Charlotte Plumbers is about the closest you'll come to fine dining. It's also worth doing.

I'm virulently anti-Texas (see bio), but some of my favorite vacations in my life were to Rockport/Fulton. Truly a gem of a place if you're looking to get away from the world.
