25 years ago today, George W. Bush signed the 2001 Authorization for Use of Military Force into law.

Barbara Lee was the only member of Congress to vote against it, warning it would be a blank check for forever wars.

History has proven her lonely and courageous vote right.

The Right talks a lot about fiscal responsibility and efficiency, but for decades, that’s been code for something else: cutting essential programs and services.

Macklemore can sue Robert Kraft for Tortious Interference for economic harm and I hope he does. Discovery would be fun: "Which other stadium owners did you talk to?" and "We need all related emails, text messages and contracts between you and them and you and Sheeran and Sheeran's team."

Brian Heywood isn't just putting initiatives for child genital inspections & his own massive tax cut on your ballot - he's also funding an attempted right-wing takeover of our state's Supreme Court.

His plan? Roll back our freedoms and gut our schools & healthcare via a captured high court.

Five races for seats on Washington’s state Supreme Court are set to get much more attention over the next two months.

Apologies to the career civil servants at NIH who have white knuckled through this, but I would rather see everyone fired than no one fired, and there's not even really any reason it would need to come to that. Anyone appointed since 2024 has to go, and their track record examined for malfeasance.

This, I think, is the heart of the problem with MAHA reconciliation and Trump administration apologia: it all makes it easier for Dems to fire just RFK, or just RFK and just Jay, rather than clear the entire house when they take power. And they have to. There are lab leak nuts screening proposals.
Shouldn't this read "Strategic Plan, 2026-2028"?

Because if the Democrats don't fire podcast Jay and reverse all this nonsense they don't deserve power
New NIAID Strategic plan

Launched quietly I guess. Apologies if I missed the press release.

No more discussion of emerging infectious diseases/pandemic preparedness. That's not good amid the many ongoing outbreaks/epidemics and the ones to come.

Your annual reminder of what REALLY happened: Donald Trump went on WWOR Radio on 9/11/01--yes, that very day--to say that with the collapse of the Twin Towers, he now had the tallest building in New York. Which was a good preview of things to come, in that it was both disgusting and a lie.
Trump claims that after 9/11, "I went down, I was building a building in New York, and I went down there very shortly thereafter -- the following day, you couldn't go down the same day -- and we worked long and hard"

Strongly agree with this, and I'll add that even when there was a racial/ethnic disparity in COVID vax rates that difference was mostly due to the age-based rollout: as the median age for Black and Hispanic populations skew younger, these groups waited longer for the COVID vaccine *due to policy*
This may have been true before COVID but since 2021, partisanship has become a better predictor of anti-vaxx beliefs than race.
