bluesky is still struggling to be a place where i can hear about breaking news and, maybe more importantly, breaking memes. it has its own memes for sure, but it is, for better or worse, detached from a broader internet culture, and i'm hoping that will change

This. Really feel like we need good Trends functionality to compete

Just a reminder that in 2020, Dr. Oz suggested that opening schools during COVID would "only cost us 2-3% in terms of total mortality," and that "any life is a life lost but... that might be a tradeoff some folks would consider."

I really, really hope Bluesky stays relevant. I felt a lot of excitement when Threads came out, but it became very clear very fast that the algorithmic, corporate nature of that app and its ties to the more IRL persona on Instagram/Facebook was never going to make it appealing long term for me.

The ironic thing about post election chatter is that a lot of the time it’s candidates who lost, underperformed, or underworked who have endless time to go on TV and share their blame story.
And for their part, journalists rarely EVER ask if that person actually ran a functionally solid campaign

Threads seems…well not totally dead but like also not really alive. And part of me always did dislike the overlap between it and Instagram/Facebook. Those followers are family and distant friends who I don’t think would care about the kind of stuff I post on Twitter. So let’s see how this goes.
