Maybe the anxiety isn't driven by fuzzy nostalgia, and it's that people can see plainly the massive increase on inequality and a wealthy class that increasingly indicates they do not abide by any social contract?

The main difference being that solar/wind farms would actually provide tangible benefits to the community, and (assuming they are subsidized by some sort of govt program) would be answerable to democratic pressure in a way it seems these corporate money-powered data centers are not.
